Photograph taken with long exposure. The starmap itself is a wooden frame with a canvas stretched over. with like THOUSANDS of fiber optic wires pushed through, lit by LEDs. it is a scale replica of the stars around aires. Done by my good friend ~Angry-Santa and I for his gf :3 following this guide. [link]

and it reminds me of something my father had planned to do for my brothers' bedroom when they were little (never got past the planning phase, though). he'd have gone for actual LEDs for each star, though.
"your" way seems like the better approach, since you can vary the star size.
now I'm feeling inspired. though I would need somebody with some talent for the electric stuff to ever get it done.
I wonder about the red dots. how did you get those? were the fiber wires or the LEDs of a different color?
